In the Guane language, Curití means “town of weavers”. Here, the dyers fill peasant life with bright colors and the spinners with the distaff, turning to tradition, deliver threads to the weavers who to the beat of one – two, one – two, one – two of a pair of pedals, they move rhythmically, making beautiful fabrics. In 1995, in the small town of Curití, department of Santander, ECOFIBRAS was born, a company dedicated to keeping alive the textile tradition inherited from the Guane indigenous culture, through spinning and weaving with fique (furcraea). Our company ECOFIBRAS is a cooperative whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of fiqueros producers and artisans, through the manual work of fique and other natural textile fibers. Using our own and transfer technologies, incorporating high quality and traditional and contemporary design contents, to elaborate ecological artisan products and take them to national and international markets, where we have obtained important recognitions thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of those who integrate it and the demonstrated achievements . Our young company has earned the trust of farmers and artisans, establishing itself as an example of improvement and development in the national artisan field. This has allowed us to manage projects to channel and administer human, technical and economic resources, seeking to achieve, in the short and medium term, our goals to become an integral and autonomous entity.
